Vocabulary Words

  • Anadromous  – fish that are born in freshwater and then spend most of their lives in saltwater, but return to freshwater to spawn.
  • Lateral Line – tactile sense organs that allow a fish to detect movement and vibration in the water.
  • Fry – very small fish recently hatched from eggs.
  • Spiny rays – fin-like defense structures on the top of the fish that contain flesh-piercing spines.

Fun Facts

  • Striped Bass are anadromous.
  • The World Record Striped Bass weighed 81 pounds 14 ounces.
  • Striped Bass don’t have eyelids. When the sun comes up they will retreat to deeper  water to avoid the bright light.
  • Striped Bass can live for 30 years.
