Vocabulary

  • Brackish – slightly salty as in a mix of river water and seawater.
  • Bladder – anything inflated and hollow.
  • Deflate – let air or gas out.
  • Crustaceans– small animals with shells.
  • Vertebrate – an animal distinguished by the possession of a backbone.

Fun Facts

  • There are 120 species of Puffer fish around the world. 30 live in freshwater, the rest live in salt or brackish water.
  • Puffer fish puff up when they get scared, by inflating their bladder.
  • Some puffer fish are poisonous.
  • Puffer fish are a more recent resident to Long Island Sound, most likely because our waters have gotten warmer.
