Docents
Join our team of volunteers! We’re always looking for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy nature, animals, and connecting with visitors.
Whether you’re interested in welcoming visitors, caring for our animal ambassadors, or assisting with programs and activities, there are many ways to get involved. No previous experience is necessary. Volunteers receive onsite guidance and training to help them feel comfortable and confident in their role.
Become a Docent
Our docents are an important part of the Nature Center, helping us welcome visitors, care for our native animal ambassadors, and support educational programs throughout the year.
Docents come from all backgrounds and experience levels. No previous experience is required. New volunteers receive onsite guidance and have opportunities to shadow experienced docents as they become comfortable in their role.
Choose the volunteer opportunities that interest you most:
Greeters
Help create a warm and welcoming experience for everyone who visits the Nature Center. Greeters welcome visitors as they arrive, answer general questions, share information about exhibits, activities, and daily programs, and help visitors find their way around.
No special nature experience is needed. We’ll provide the guidance you need to feel comfortable in the role. If you enjoy meeting people and helping others make the most of their visit, this is a great way to get involved.
Animal Care
Help care for the Nature Center’s native animal ambassadors. Volunteers assist with feeding and basic animal care, cleaning and maintaining enclosures, refreshing food and water, and keeping animal areas clean, safe, and comfortable.
No previous animal care experience is necessary. We’ll provide the guidance you need to feel comfortable helping with the daily care of our animal ambassadors.
Program Helpers
Help bring Nature Center programs to life! Volunteers assist staff with hands-on activities, educational programs, school groups, and special events. Depending on the program, you might help welcome participants, set up activities, assist with demonstrations, crafts, or outdoor activities, and help with cleanup.
Programs may include topics such as Three Ecosystems, Snakes, Turtles & Touch Tank, and other Nature Center activities. No previous experience is necessary. Volunteers receive onsite guidance and can learn alongside staff and experienced docents.
